Tim - Math (all levels)

Rates: $60 per session / $70 pay as you go
 
Qualifications:

  • I started GameFace Tutoring in 2007 with 23 students after teaching at Sun Valley High School.
  • Graduated with a 3.87 GPA from West Chester with a degree in secondary education in math.
  • Scored in the top 15% on the Praxis Test (teaching entrance exam).

Fun Facts:

  • After graduating from PSU in 2001 I played in a band full-time until 2005. We played everywhere from Killington, VT to Key West, FL, and played festivals with bands like Jimmy Eat World, Reel Big Fish, Violent Femmes, and Wilco. I have a collage at GameFace Tutoring to prove it.
  • In December, 2009, I rejoined the music world by co-lead-singing with The Fuzzy Bunny Slippers. That lasted until August, 2010, when I realized that I can't get home at 5 a.m. and still run a business the next day.
  • I was 9 places away from winning a trip to the World Series of Poker in 2006. I won 2 tournament to get me to the finals, and came in 15th place out of 153 people for the trip to Vegas. It would have been sweet.




Kayla

Kayla - Biology, Chemistry, Math (up to algebra 2)

Qualifications:

  • I graduated from Cabrini College with a B.S. in chemistry and biology in May of 2006 with a GPA of 3.98.
  • I attended Texas A&M University for my M.S. graduate degree in chemistry and graduated in May 2009. I also tutored and taught General Chemistry I and II Labs for four semesters while completing my degree.
  • I am now completing my career as a professional student by attending Arcadia University for my second M.S. degree in forensic science.

Fun Facts:

  • I absolutely LOVE snowboarding! I started when I was about 12 years old and have been hooked ever since. The sound of hitting fresh powder on the top of a mountain is the best sound in the world. The rush of gliding down the mountain and carving your path is completely addicting!
  • I can throw a football just as good as or even better than a lot of guys! I love to play football and am even considered the ?secret weapon? whenever I play. I can not only throw a perfect spiral, but I can catch and block too!
  • I was an intern at the Berks County coroner?s office and went on scene with the crime scene investigators. My favorite part was getting to see an autopsy! Feel free to ask me about it if you feel inclined!




John

John - Physics, Math (all levels)

Qualifications:

  • I graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2006 with a B.S. in Physics.
  • I was awarded the Illinois Tech Heald Scholarship, as well as the ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) Scholarship.
  • I have been tutoring for over 5 years.

Fun Facts:

  • I am a musician - I play trombone and drums, and a little bit of piano and bass. I played trombone in a ska band when I was in High School (and yeah, I was a marching band geek too).
  • While I don't play in a band now, I do go to see live music as much as possible. I grew up on ska music, so that's my favorite, but I also enjoy reggae, jazz, funk, and almost everything else.
  • My middle name is Reidar (pronounced like radar). I got this name from my grandfather, who moved from Norway to the U.S. in the 1940s. I visited Norway when I was a teenager, which was an awesome experience.




Brooke

Brooke - Study Skills, English/Reading/Writing, Math (through 8th grade)

Qualifications:

  • I graduated from the University of Kentucky in May 2006 with a degree in Special Education.
  • I have been tutoring for over 6 years.
  • I am a former Radnor High School teacher, so I'm extremely familiar with their program.

Fun Facts:

  • I love playing piano. I was never given formal lessons but I can play almost any song by ear.
  • I am a true NCAA basketball fan, and am obsessed with the Kentucky Wildcats. My family bleeds blue. I was at the infamous Duke vs. Kentucky game in 1992. Watch out when March comes...it's madness!
  • I write with my right hand and do everything else with my left hand.




Cathy

Cathy - Math (all levels), English

Rates: $55 per weekly session / $65 pay as you go
 
Qualifications:

  • I will be graduating from Cabrini College this December (2012) with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, and a minor in English (current GPA 3.98).
  • I am an advanced tutor in Mathematics and a writing tutor at Cabrini.
  • I plan to continue my education after undergrad to pursue a PhD in Mathematics Education.

Fun Facts:

  • II am really interested in art and theater. In high school and college I have been involved in theater, performing in mostly straight plays but also musicals. This November, I will be performing in Cabrini's rendition of Out of Order by Ray Cooney.
  • I'm really into sports. I'm from Connecticut, so March Madness really means Husky Pride. The big two for me are basketball and football and am always up for a pick-up game.
  • I love Mexican food - I actually love all Spanish food. I'm half Puerto Rican and really enjoy the Spanish culture, especially anything I can put in my stomach! In particular, empanadas and tostones (I could talk about food all day).




Conti

Conti -Spanish, All subjects (6th grade and below)

Qualifications:

  • I graduated from Penn State University with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
  • I am a substitute at the Haverford School.
  • I am a science teacher during the summer months for ESF camps.

Fun Facts:

  • I LOVE dancing. Anytime, anywhere. I was a competitive dancer for over 15 years.
  • I am an absolute travel addict. Thus far, my favorite city is Sevilla.
  • I was born in Vina del Mar, Chile and am fluent in Spanish.




Gina

Gina - Math (all levels)

Qualifications:

  • I graduated from Cabrini College in May, 2010 with a degree in secondary education in math.
  • My GPA was 3.91.
  • I teach full-time at the PA Leadership Charter School as the middle school math teacher (6th grade math, Pre-Algebra, and Honors Algebra 1).

Fun Facts:

  • I went skydiving! In May, 2009, I jumped from a plane at CrossKeys in South Jersey. I have pictures and a video that I will happily whip out for those doubters. Kids - Wait until you are at least 21 before paying a lot of money for your parents to have a heart attack. Truth be told: It was worth it!
  • I studied abroad in Italy in February 2007! I went with 20 other students and 2 professors and toured 8 different cities in 8 days! It definitely was one of the best experiences of my life.
  • I'm a die-hard Philly Fan. I have been a Flyers fan since I was a toddler screaming at the TV with my dad watching games. I tend to get a little intense. Primeau will aIways be my captain and Brind'Amour and Roenick will always have a special place in my heart. I also love my Champion Phillies. Victorino is my boy and Rauuuuuul is right up there too. I also have an unhealthy obsession with the Philly Phanatic. My dream is to one day dance with him on the Phillies dugout. If you're not a Philly fan and you want us to be best buds, don't tell me.
